Workplace violence is a very special and growing threat in today’s world. As many a two million violent acts are reported each year in the U.S. alone. The majority of violent acts are simple assaults; however, homicide is the leading cause of death for women in the workplace, and the second leading cause for men according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The annual cost of workplace violence to American businesses exceeds $36 billion. This includes the monetary cost of lost productivity, loss of life, injuries, counseling, legal fees, court awards, and management time spent dealing with the crises. Each year, workplace violence costs $1.7 million days of work or on average of 3.5 days per crime. This results in $55 million in lost wages annually.
